Prof. Dr. Marcos Paulo Figueiredo Barros

I have a Bachelor´s degree in teacher Biology at UFRJ (2000), M.Sc. in Biological Sciences by the Biophysics Institute Carlos Chagas Filho (2004), and Ph.D. in Ecology by the Biology Institute (2008) of the same institute. Since 2009 I am a Professor at the Instituto de Biodiversidade e Sustentabilidade – Nupem/UFRJ-Macaé, where I am part of the team of the Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences and Conservation (PPGCIAC). I am part of the Limnology Lab since 1997, first in Rio, and as of 2009 in Macaé, RJ, where I undertake activities related to teaching, research and extension. I am experienced in coastal aquatic ecosystems (coastal lagoons) and restoration of Amazonian aquatic ecosystems (lakes and small stream, locally known as igarapés). My current interests are restoration of Amazonian freshwater ecosystems impacted by mining activities, and management and use of aquatic plants biomass in eutrophic coastal lagoons.

Areas of concetration
  • Ecology of Benthic Macroinvertebrados
  • Carbon Cycle in Coastal Lagoons and Amazonian Lakes
  • Use of Aquatic Macrophytes in the Carbon market
