This project studies the concept of Nature, from Ancient Greece to the present, with a focus on the process of separation between humankind and nature. In parallel, it examines the emergence and the evolution of the concept of sustainability, how it developed into scientific discipline, global policy, moral value related to intergenerational justice, and the alternative futures it projects. We are particularly interested in investigating different cosmovisions - including those rooted in ancestrality and religions – that the western Science eventually examines in the scope of the Gaia theory. This effort involves detailed literature search as well as direct participation and interaction in multicultural dialogues, such as those promoted by initiatives and movements such as “Selvagem (Wild)– Studies About Life” (Editora Dantes), “Fé no Clima (Faith in Climate)” (ISER, Instituto de Estudos da Religião) and “Livmundi – Festival of Sustainable Life” (MashUp Publicidade).
