I obtained my B.Sc (1997), M.Sc. (1999) and Ph.D. (2003) in Ecology at UFRJ, with part of my studies carried out at Lund University, Sweden, and at the Institute of Marine Sciences, Spain. I have also done postdoctoral work at the University of British Columbia, Canada (2014-2015). I am currently Associate Professor of the Ecology Department, of the Biology Institute at UFRJ, and I am also enrolled in the Graduate Program in Ecology and Evolution of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). My studies investigate structure and function of freshwater ecosystems and how global change (climate change, biodiversity loss, nutrient entrada) affect these ecosystems. My approaches include lab experiments, field collection, field experiments in mesocosms (caixas de água) and microcosms (tank bromeliads) and analysis of spatial distribution of diversity. Recently, I have started some work related to freshwater ecosystem management, restoration and conservation.
